All About the Snooker Game
The snooker game has a long history and continues to be immensely popular in countries such as the UK, Ireland and, more recently, China.
It is believed that the modern snooker game can trace its roots back to a variation on the classic billiards game which was created by the British Army in India in around 1875. The first World Sno0oker Championship took place in 1927 and it, like many of the subsequent ones, was won by Joe Davis.
After a period in decline live television provided a boost for the snooker game in the 1970s and it continues to be a popular televised sport particularly in the UK.
The basic snooker table is not unlike a pool or billiards table although the version used for playing snooker is usually a bit bigger than a pool table. The balls used are generally made up of fifteen reds, a yellow (2 points). green (3), brown (4), blue (5), pink (6) and black (7). Each starts the game on its own spot and the player need to pot a red before then can then try to pocket one of the other colors.
How to Play
If a player successfully pockets a red and then one of the other colors then go back to a red and so on. Once all of the reds have been cleared off the table the players need to pocket the colors in the correct sequence – as noted above – ending with the black. The winner of snooker games is not necessarily the person who pockets the black but rather the one who has accumulated most points in the whole game.
The strategy and the subtle shots which the snooker game requires makes it a highly popular sport but the rather large size of the table tends to restrict the number of people who choose to play it at home
